Building practical pathways for young people

Unlocking Somerset Talent

A Passion for Somerset event

About Unlocking Somerset Talent

Unlocking Somerset Talent, run in conjunction with Somerset Chamber of Commerce, aims to inspire business leaders in Somerset to support young people by offering meaningful opportunities through apprenticeships, internships, mentoring and training and education, helping to build a stronger, more sustainable local economy

Highlight of the 2026 event will be a keynote address from Rich Clothier MBE, Managing Director of Wyke Farms, third-generation British cheesemaker and sustainability pioneer.

One of Somerset’s most inspiring business events in 2025, Unlocking Somerset Talent, gathered leaders from across the county to discuss the future of skills, employment, and opportunity.

Convened by His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Somerset and the High Sheriff of Somerset, and hosted by Passion for Somerset CIC, the event was a resounding success - a full day packed with insight, inspiration and invaluable networking.

Key themes from the day centred on the importance of taking a chance on young people, encouraging and developing their skills and building mutual trust between employers and apprentices or trainees. Business leader and entrepreneur Deborah Meaden, in a question and answer session, highlighted the vital importance of investing in and nurturing Somerset’s young people, who will drive business growth and secure the long-term prosperity of the local economy.
